Honor Magic8 Pro Air Debuts as Ultra-Slim Flagship With Big Battery and Pro Cameras

Thin and light smartphones are impressive feats of engineering, but they usually demand trade-offs—most often in camera hardware and battery size.

The Honor Magic8 Pro Air aims to break that pattern, positioning itself as Honor’s take on the iPhone Air and the wave of ultra-slim Android phones launched in recent months.

Honor’s strategy stands out. Instead of cutting corners, the Magic8 Pro Air packs genuinely Pro-level hardware, including a triple-camera system with a dedicated telephoto lens, a large 5,500mAh battery, and a compact display designed for comfortable one-handed use.

Unlike many rivals, the Magic8 Pro Air sports a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 1,216 × 2,640 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 6,000 nits of peak local brightness.

It also includes a 50MP front-facing camera and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Despite all this, the phone is just 6.1mm thin and weighs only 155 grams.

It features an aluminum frame with a glass back, stereo speakers, and a physical nano-SIM tray that supports two cards. eSIM is also supported, and the device carries IP68/IP69 ratings for water and dust resistance.

On the rear, a camera visor houses three sensors. The main camera is a 50MP 23mm-equivalent shooter with a large 1/1.3-inch sensor, ƒ/1.6 aperture, and OIS.

It’s joined by a 64MP 74mm-equivalent periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.2-inch sensor, ƒ/2.6 aperture, 3.2× optical zoom, and OIS, plus a 50MP 16mm-equivalent ultrawide lens that also handles macro shots.

Powering the Magic8 Pro Air is a 5,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, supporting 80W wired and 50W wireless charging—an impressive feat for such a slim device.

Under the hood, the phone runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. Software duties are handled by MagicOS 10, based on Android 16.

The Honor Magic8 Pro Air is available in Shadow Black, Fairy Purple, Feather White, and Light Orange.

Pricing in China starts at CNY 4,999 ($717) for the 12GB/256GB model and goes up to CNY 5,999 ($860) for the top-tier 16GB/1TB variant.

Open sales in China begin on January 23, with Honor yet to confirm details about a global launch.
